Abstract: Nurse scheduling is usually arranged manually by the manager or head of nurse in the hospital. With this way, the scheduling regulations for the nurses are not completely satisfied. The objective of this work is to model the nurse scheduling problem into the framework of nonpreemptive goal programming. On the field of operation research, nurse scheduling problem had been intensively discussed, but in this paper these are some differences in scheduling the days off. In this paper, there are two types of days off. First, nurses are provided with a full days off, in example 24 hours a day. Second, we call it free time where the nurse can get it when she/he have already spent a night shift in the day before. Beside, there are some units in the hospital have to be off in several days. We use LINGO 11.0 to solve the optimization problem. It is shown that nonpreemptive goal programming fulfills almost all scheduling regulations in the hospital.
