Abstract: The electric field can interact with biological cells. This research focus on studying in vitro frog’s heart contraction given electric field exposure 500 to 5000 V/m. The parameters considered are the force, frequency, and period of the frog’s heart contraction before and after given the electric field exposure. ADInstruments sensor used is equipped with chart 5 software for displaying graphs. The results showed that there are no significant changes in the force of frog’s heart contraction with increasing electric field strength. However, the frequency and period of contraction changes significantly with the increase of electric field strength. Heart has the autonomous properties which is able to generate natural impulses from the pulse center (called ganglion Remak in the frog). The flow of impulses that cause the heart muscle action is affected by several types of electrolytes. The electric field could be expected to affect the ions found in body fluids, permeable membrane, and ion channels in the heart. If there is an interruption in electrolyte levels and the pulse center it will cause the interference of automation process.
