Abstract: The microbial consortia from different ponds of palm oil mill effluen (POME) treatment were selected and applied for direct bioconversion of lignosellulosic materials in palm oil mill effluent under aerobic conditions. The consortias were isolated from 16 ponds of palm oil mills (POM) of Condong-Garut and Rejosari-Lampung. They were aerated to ensure effective isolation of aerobic microorganisms. The active lignin- and cellulose- degrading microorganisms were determined by using the method of selected agar plate medium. Meanwhile, the hemicellulose-degrading microorganisms were selected by spectrophotometry method. The microorganisms isolated from Anaerobic 5 of Condong POM and Anaerobic 3 of Rejosari POM had the high growth rate in selected medium of agar lignin plates. Meanwhile, the high cellulolytic indexes were indicated by microbial consortia from Anaerobic 2 and Facultative 1 of Rejosari POM. The high direct bioconversion of lignin and hemicellulose in POME was also shown by the mix culture of these consortias.
