Abstract: Bamboo is promising material for OSB product. The physical and mechanical properties of OSB prepared from bamboo strands was much better than OSB prepared from wood strands. In order to complete the technical data of bamboo OSB, the research related to physical and mechanical properties of OSB before and after exposure to weather at elevated time were impotant to be observed. Betung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper (Schult. f.) Backer ex Heyne) strands and isocyanate resin were used in this experiment. Prior to be sprayed with adhesive, parts of bamboo strands were steamed at 126 °C, with 1.4 kg/cm2 pressure for 1 hour. Non steam strands were used for control OSB. Two levels of isocynate resin (i.e 4 and 5%) were applied. The physical and mechanical properties of OSB before and after exposure for 1, 3 and 6 months to weather, and extractive substances before and after steam treatment were evaluated. The results indicated that the physical and mechanical properties and chemical properties of OSB were significanrly affected by pretreatment, adhesive levels and duration of exposure to weather. OSB prepared from steamed strands had better mechanical properties compare to control board. The higher the resin level applied resulted in the better the dimensional stability and strength of board. Steamed treated on bamboo strands reduced the extractives of bamboo. Exposure OSB board to weather linearly reduced dimensional stability and strength of board. After 6 months of exposure, severe delamination occurred in the surfaces and sides of board resulted in the physical and mechanical properties can not be evaluated.
