Abstract: The wool of local sheep is still a by-product that can be used for some craft products. The aims of this research were to study the wool weight yield during the processing and to know quality of the wool yarn. Parameters were consisted of wool weight yield percentage during sorting I, washing, sorting II, carding and during spinning, and the quality of yarn, i.e, strength and elongation of the yarn. This research used the T-test analysis. There were 5 repetitions for observed wool weight yield during the process; 2 repetitions for strength and elongation of the wool yarn from garut sheep; and 5 repetitions for strength and elongation of the wool yarn from batur sheep. The results showed that percentage of wool weight yield from garut and batur sheep was not significantly different, except for the yield in spin stage that tended to be different. The yarn quality was statistically similar between two types of wool, but for the elongation they tended to be different. Sheep breed difference was not significant on wool weight yield and yarn quality. It is concluded that wool of garut sheep can be processed to make yarn, as same as wool of batur sheep.
