| dc.description.abstract | Anthocephalus cadamba Miq.is a fast growing species potentially developed in industrial plantation forest in order to supply raw material of wood-based industries, mainly pulp and paper. It is supported by wood characteristics that meet the requirements of raw material. Kraft process is the most applied method in pulp industry, related to the pulp quality yielded and process efficiency. In this research, tree age and active alkali were usedas treatments arranged in factorial design. The wood chips were prepared from jabon tree with the age of 3, 5, and 7 years, then chemically pulped under condition of 15%, 18%, 21%, 24%, and 27% active alkali. Control parameters of pulping process and pulp quality were examined, consist of delignification degree, kappa number, klason lignin, pulp yield, alkali consumption, viscosity, brightness, unbeaten freeness, delignification selectivity, degree of polymerization, and molecular weight of cellulose. The results showed that tree age, active alkali, and interaction between them significantly affect the responses examined, except unbeaten freeness. | en |
