dc.description.abstractAs Jakarta developed into a metropolitan city, flood problems become the center of attention for its citizens and government. Ciliwung river is one of significant contributors to flood discharge in Jakarta. Flood control can be done by constructing a dam which retains water in the upstream area. Katulampa weir is often taken as indicator and early warning for Jakarta’s flood eventhough it’s not a flood control structure. Hydrological analysis taken as an initial step to understand the potential of Katulampa weir to be developed as a dam. Twenty three years daily rainfall data from three stations are analysed using log Pearson III (LPIII) distribution to produce design storm with 25, 50, 100, and 200 years of return periods. HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Engineering Center-Hydrology Modelling System) was employed to model design flood using two storm events in two different days. It resulted design flood with average of 91.2; 107.5; 124.6; and 142.5 m3/s also total inflow flood design volume 3.4; 3.9; 4.5; and 5.1 million m3 for each respective return period. A simple simulation was performed to estimate inundated area in Katulampa as dam. It turns out that 35-45 ha are needed to retain flood volume per return periods above.en
