| Abstract: | The issue of global warming is growing, that putting forests as one of solutions to decrease the concentration of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere. This study describes the tendency of the usage and utilization of forest areas on west Kalimantan province and its relationship to the stock of carbon in forest areas by using system dynamic method. The simulation of model until 2011 shows the occurrence of deforestation that causes loss of stock carbon 0f 62,74 megatons. The simulation of model up to 2050 on Business as Usual (BAU) will cause carbon stock losses amounted to 162,82 mega tons due to land conversion activities. The rate of forest degradation trough the year 2011 has resulted in carbon stock losses about 300 megatons or equivalent to 27,28 megatons/year. The simulation up to 2011 showed the value of plantation forest carbon stock reach 42,96 megatons. This number will continue to increase until it reaches 84,23 megatons by 2050. The application of Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) scenario, forest plantation harvesting cycle, and provincial conservation policy practice can reduce loss of carbon stock rate. |
