Abstract: Coliform bacteria is a commonly used indicator’s bacteria of sanitary quality of foods and water. The aims of this study were to assess the level of sanitation at canteens in IPB Dramaga Campus, to observe the number of coliform bacteria on plate and a cutting board, and to find the relationship between sanitation practices in the canteen with the number of coliform on plate and cutting board. The responden of this research were 39 canteens. Samples for coliform analysis were taken from the surface of plate and cutting board and tested using replicate organism direct contact (RODAC) method. Based on the categorization of the number of coliform, 64.1% and 82.1% showed poor category on the plate and cutting board, respectively. The canteen sanitation aspect which had a significant relationship with the number of coliform is the washing time of cutting board with a value of p= 0.034 (p <0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.342. This showed that there is a relationship between equipment washing time and the amount of coliform contamination on the cutting board. The high presence of coliform in the plate and cutting board indicated poor sanitation at canteen in IPB Dramaga.
