Abstract: The aim of this study was to observe the attitude of veterinary students on animal welfare at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University. This study was cross sectional which was conducted through survey using questionnaires. The questionnaires involved 6 categories of questions on animal welfare. Total of 200 veterinary students was included in this study which consisted of 4 levels of study year, i.e., 1st, 5th, 7th, and 9th semester students. The study showed that the veterinary students had mostly attitude on animal welfare with category from neutral to positive level. The 9th semester students had positive attitude on general animal welfare. The students at 5th semester had positive attitude on welfare of pets, welfare of wild animals, and welfare of entertain use animals. All grade of students showed positive attitude on welfare of livestock animals and veterinary education. There was a significant correlation between sudent grade and attitude on animal welfare, whereas higher grade of students showed more positive attitude on general animal welfare. On the other hands, higher grade of students showed less negative of attitude on welfare of wild animals and entertain use animals. The female students had positive attitude on general animal welfare, welfare of pet animals, welfare of livestock animals, and welfare of wild animals more than the male ones. Nevertheless, the male students had positif attitude on welfare of entertain use animals more than the female ones. Both of male and female students had positive attitude on veterinary education. From this study, it should be suggested to deliver the animal welfare course in lower grade of students and the animal welfare concept should be applied to all courses in connection with animal handling.
