Abstract: Dairy horses known as “wild horse milk” producer are generally kept extensively, so this resulted in less control of milk production and composition. Production and composition of milk are influenced by genetic and nutritional factors. A commercial farm has kept many horses with good genetic potential. However, the horse performances also depend on type and amount of feeds that are given. This study assessed the effect of feed given on milk product and composition. The experiment was conducted for three months. Feeds given were field grasses, wheat and Vital commercial pellet. Variables measured were feed and nutrient intakes, body weight, milk production and composition. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that genetic factor and feed intake affected milk production and composition. Imported race horses have a greater body weight than local race, so that their nutrient needs and the production and composition of milk are greater than the local horses.
Kuda dikenal dengan sebutan “kuda liar” penghasil susu yang dipelihara secara ekstensif sehingga mengakibatkan produksi dan komposisi susu yang dihasilkan kurang terkontrol. Produksi dan komposisi susu dipengaruhi oleh faktor genetik dan nutrisi. Peternakan komersial banyak memelihara kuda dengan potensi genetik yang bagus, namun performa kuda juga bergantung kepada jenis dan jumlah pakan yang diberikan. Penelitian ini mengkaji hubungan antara pemberian pakan dengan produksi dan komposisi susu. Penelitian dilakukan selama 3 bulan. Pakan yang diberikan adalah rumput lapang, dedak gandum dan Vital (pellet komersial). Variable yang diukur adalah konsumsi pakan dan nutrien, bobot badan, produksi dan komposisi susu. Data dianalisa secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor genetik dan jumlah konsumsi nutrien pakan mempengaruhi produksi dan komposisi susu. Kuda bangsa impor memiliki bobot badan yang lebih besar, sehingga kebutuhan nutriennya lebih besar dan produksi serta komposisi susunya lebih baik dibandingkan dengan kuda lokal.
