Abstract: Seed quality with high viability and vigor is an important factor to get high yield of rice. A research was conducted from April to August 2011 aimed to study the effects of invigoration treatments on seed viability and yield of rice (Oryza sativa L.). The research consisted of laboratory experiment conducted in the laboratory of seed Science and Technology, IPB and field experiment conducted at Muara Research Station Bogor. A split - split plot design with three replications and three treatment factors i.e. variety, seed viability level, and invigoration treatment, was applied to the experiments. The variety treatment included an irrigated lowland varieties (Ciherang, Maro) and upland rice (Limboto). Seed with different viability levels were provided by applying rapid aging treatments of etanol vapour for 0 and 75 minutes. The invigoration treatments included 50, 100, 150 ppm of GA3 and 100, 150, 200 ppm of KH2PO4. The results indicated the invigoration treatment of KH2PO4 150 ppm could improve seed viability and vigor of rice seed significantly shown on varieties Ciherang and Maro, respectively. The invigoration treatments were also increased rice yield mainly due to the increase of the grain number per panicle.
