dc.description.abstractThe demand of high quality rice becomes increasingly in Asian market and around the world. The increase in productivity and quality of Indonesian agriculture has continued, such as improving new aromatic rice variety to have good characteristics (resistant to pest, ) which is like non-aromatic rice. The aim of this research was to develop new varieties of non transgenic aromatic rice by induction of aroma gene (mutated badh2) from aromatic varieties (Pandan Wangi or Mentik Wangi) to non aromatic varieties rice (Ciherang). Rice BC5F1 CP (Ciherang/Pandan Wangi) and BC4F1 CM (Ciherang/Mentik Wangi) that used in this research were the result from previous research with site-directed crossing method. Selection of plant was done by PCR with RM223 marker for CP and Bradbury marker for CM. Visualization of DNA sample by PCR was done by using gel agarose 3% for CP and 2% for CM. DNA amplification result of BC5F1 CP with RM223 marker can distinguish the band pattern of aromatic and non aromatic with band size 140 bp and 160 bp. In addition, DNA amplification result of BC4F1 CM with Bradbury marker produced DNA band size 580 bp, 355 bp and 257 bp. The succeed in introgression of aroma gene from Pandan Wangi or Mentik Wangi to Ciherang was showed by heterozygote band.en
