| Abstract: | One of the environmental issues associated with forest is climate changing due to global warming caused by rising of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2). Forests absorb carbon dioxide during the process of photosynthesis. The less number of forest caused less carbon dioxide absorbed and more carbon dioxide can thicken the blanket of greenhouse gases in atmosphere. Reforestation and afforestation were done in order to reduce the green house effect. Teak (Tectona grandis L. f.) belonged the kind of hardwood. Teak also has ability to hold the top soil, prevent the erosion, absorb CO2 from the air and it has a high economic value. The research was conducted at the KPH Balapulang Perhutani Unit I Central Java. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between levels of carbon with density found in teak (Tectona grandis L. f.). The sample of trees is selected based on class of age, namely (1) the diameter distribution itβs age classes, (2) the sample of tree must be healthy and the form are normal, and (3) sample of trees should represent average conditions of Teak trees in age classes concerned. Laboratory test was conducted to determine the specific weight and carbon content on any part of the tree. The equation which is obtained based on the regression results are used to determine the closeness relationship between the carbon content and the density of the wood teak (Tectona grandis L. f.). The results showed that there was a significant difference in the value of the carbon content and density in each part of the tree. The greatest density has found in the roots and the largest carbon content has presented in the trunk. The closeness equation between carbon content and wood density formulated in π=112,20π10,41π2β0,09. |
