Pengaruh Pemberian Tanaman Sorgum (Sorghum bicolor L) terhadap Pertumbuhan Rusa Timor (Rusa timorensis de Blainville 1822) di Hutan Penelitian Dramaga, Bogor

Abstract

Timor deer (Rusa timorensis de Blainville 1822) is a tropical species that are protected by IUCN with categories vulnerable and in fear became extinct. Growth timor deer can be accelerated by additional feed sorgum (Sorghum bicolor L) with carbohydrate, protein and fat which good for the deer growth. This research aim are to examine the consumption and feed conversion timor deer by providing sorghum, assessing weight and size of the Timor deer morphometric growth by providing sorghum, reviewing timor deer feeding behavior and feed selection in captivity. The research conducted at the Research Forest Dramaga managed by Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Konservasi dan Rehabilitasi, Badan Litbang Kehutanan, Kementerian Kehutanan, Bogor using Latin square design consisting of four formulations of treatment A (feed basic from of elephant grass 50 % + kaliandra 50 %), B (feed basic 85 % + sorghum 15 %), C (feed basic 70 % + sorghum 30 %), D (feed basic 55 % + sorghum 45 %). The riset used four timor deer with ages 12-16 months consisting of two males and two females. The riset have four treatment periods consisting of 4 days for preliminary and 12 day for collecting data. Weight and morphometric size was measured before and after treatment in each period. The results shows that not significant effect (P> 0.05) the treatment of the dry matter intake, feed conversion, weight and morphometric timor deer in captivity, but there is a significant effect on sex differences deer with T count 16,82 and T Table 3,18. Timor deer was consume the feed for 2-3 hours or 120-180 minutes for 9 hours in the morning, for 2-2.5 hours or 120-150 minutes for 9 hours in the day used for rest (rumination), the afternoon deer spent 3-3,5 hours or 180-210 minutes for 9 hours to consume feed. Preferensi and favored by the timor deer in captivity is elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) with an average frequency of 32,8 times per day and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) with an average frequency of 25,2 times and kaliandra (Caliandra callotyrus) with an average frequency of 21,6 times.
