Title: Comparison of The Use of Azospirillum sp in Latosol Soil Against Grass Production and Nitrogen Absorbtion

Abstract: Nitrogen is one of the essential nutrient for plant. Deficiency nitrogen in plant could make plant plant’s growth be under pressure. Latosol soil is a kind of soil which has a low pH. In this condition, it needs to add nitrogen from external. Adding some microbes could improve nitrogen in soil. This research used isolate Azospirillum inside the soil for fixation N2 to NH3 so nitrogen can absorbed by the plant. There are five isolates that will be test in the research. The sample of Isolate Azospirillums took from South East Sulawesi. The aim of the research is comparize five isolates Azospirillum qualities. The treatments in the research are P1: Azospirillum isolate 82a(2)1, P2 : Azospirillum isolate 82a(2)2, P3 : Azospirillum isolate 82b(2)1, P4 : Azospirillum isolate 82b(2)2, P5 : Azospirillum isolate 82b(2)3, P6 : Control (without Azospirillum). The result showed that it is not different between treatments and control. Howewer by the growth’s percentage, the best isolate in Paspalum notatum is P1 treatment or the isolate 82a(2) and in Brachiaria decumbens var. mulato is P4 treatment or the isolate 82b(2)2. Parameter nitrogen absorbtion in Brachiaria decumben var. mulato, P4 is the best treatment to increase nitrogen absorbtion.
Nitrogen merupakan salah satu unsur hara esensial bagi tanaman. Kekurangan nitrogen pada tanaman dapat menyebabkan pertumbuhan tanaman tertekan dan daun-daun menjadi kering. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kandungan nitrogen dalam tanah yaitu pH tanah. Tanah latosol merupakan jenis tanah yang memiliki pH rendah sehingga bersifat masam. Pada kondisi tanah seperti ini, diperlukan penambahan nitrogen dari luar. Penambahan nitrogen dapat dilakukan dengan menambahkan mikroba kedalam tanah. Mikroba yang digunakan yaitu Azospirillum. Terdapat lima isolat yang akan diuji pada penelitian ini. Isolat Azospirillum yang digunakan diambil dari Sulawesi Tenggara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu membandingkan kualitas dari kelima isolat yang dilihat dari produksi dan serapan nitrogen rumput Paspalum notatum dan Brachiaria decumbens var. mulato.
