Title: Effect of Dietary Supplementation of Fulvic Acid on The Characteristic of Ruminal Fermentation and Protozoa Population In Vitro

Abstract: The use of antibiotics as growth promotor has been banned, so the use of natural feed additives such as fulvic acid is expected to improve ruminant performance. The purpose of study was to determine the influence of fulvic acid supplementation on rumen fermentation characteristic in vitro. The experiment was carried out using a factorial randomized block design 2x5 with three replications. The first factor treatment was type of complete ration (high energy and low energy) and the second factor treatment was level of fulvic acid (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%). Variable measured were pH, dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, VFA and NH3 concentrations and also protozoa population. Data were analyzed using the analysis of variance and Duncan multiple range test. The result showed there was no interaction effect between type of complete ration and level of fulvic acid (P>0.05) on pH value, dry matter and organic matter degrability, total VFA and NH3 concentration, and also protozoa population. Using type of complete ration was no significant effect on all variables. Fulvic acid supplementation increased ruminal pH in complete ration but it still was in normal condition (P<0.01). However, there was no significant effect on the other variables. It was concluded that fulvic acid did not have any negative effect on ruminal fermentation.
Perbaikan performa ternak sapi dapat diupayakan dengan memanipulasi kondisi fermentasi rumen sehingga memaksimalkan pasokan nutrien. Pemberian antibiotik dapat meningkatkan efisiensi produksi tetapi penggunaannya saat ini sudah dilarang. Penggunaan feed additive alami yang dapat diperoleh dari ekstrak tanaman atau bahan organik terdekomposisi seperti humat diharapkan dapat meningkatkan performa ternak. Senyawa humat terdiri dari asam humat, asam fulvat dan humin (Islam et al., 2005). Penelitian dengan penggunaan senyawa humat sudah diterapkan pada ternak monogastrik, namun salah satu fraksinya yaitu asam fulvat belum banyak diketahui secara ilmiah penggunaannya terhadap ternak terutama ruminansia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suplementasi asam fulvat dalam ransum komplit A (energi tinggi) dan B (energi rendah) terhadap pH, konsentrasi volatile fatty acid (VFA) total, konsentrasi amonia (NH3), kecernaan bahan kering (KCBK) dan kecernaan bahan organik (KCBO) serta populasi protozoa in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) pola faktorial 2x5 dengan 3 ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah jenis ransum (ransum komplit energi tinggi dan ransum komplit energi rendah) dan faktor kedua adalah taraf penggunaan asam fulvat (0%; 2,5%; 5%; 7,5%; 10%). Ulangan berdasarkan waktu pengambilan cairan rumen. Cairan rumen diambil dari sapi Peranakan Ongole yang berada di RPH Kota Bogor. Data yang diperoleh diuji dengan sidik ragam (Anova) dan dilakukan uji Duncan untuk data yang berbeda nyata. Peubah yang diamati adalah pH rumen, KCBK, KCBO, VFA, NH3 dan populasi protozoa.
