Abstract: The objective of this research was to find combination of moisture content and duration of controlled deterioration test (CDT), that can estimate viability of chili pepper seeds after 4 and 6 months storage period. Chili pepper seed consists of 6 lots with different expired dates, they were Bendera, Celena, Gelora, Landung, Pueddes, and Tegar. This research were divided into 3 steps. First step was to determine the initial viability of each seed lots. The second was to store seed lots for 4 and 6 months in alumunium foil and polyethylene plastic packaging at storage room with temperature of 28 - 300C and 50-57% relative humidity. The last step was controlled deterioration test with different conditions of moisture content and duration which implemented in waterbath with temperature of 410C. The results of this research, there was no difference between seed viability after storage packaging in alumunium foil and polyethylene plastic.The germination of chili pepper seed after 4 and 6 months storage in alumunium foil and polyethylene plastic was closely correlated with the value of vigor index after CDT (moisture content adjusted to 21% / 410C / 24 hours), with correlation coefficient > 95%.
