The Evaluation of Electronic Journal EBSCO using the Conspectus Methods in Bogor Agricultural Universit Library

Abstract

Since 2009 IPB has subscribed EBSCO electronic journal database. However, until today the collection IPB has never been evaluated wheather or not the collection meets the needs of users. This study aims to do the evaluation by applying conspectus methods. Using the methods, the collection of the journal will be classified according titles and analyzed their strength and weaknesses. This research uses electronic journal database EBSCO academic source complete package which contains 11. 945 journal titles. The data used in the research are taken from(1) the result from analyzing journal titles by determining the class and subject classification scheme based on Universal Dewey Classification (UDC) (2) evaluator response on questionare to determine the collection rate indicator (0-5) and the scope of the language. Results showed that the distribution of the number of top journals are on the subject of class-3 (social sciences) by 20%, the subject of class-5 (pure sciences) by 20% and class 6 (applied and technological sciences) as much as 36%. The strengths of the collection is on-classes 5 and 6 subjects at level 4 and level 3b. Conspectus method is relevant in an effort to form a collection of libraries core collection, especially in arround universities.
