Parasit Dalam Sel Darah Merah Musang Luak (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) di Jawa

Abstract

This research was conducted to observe the infection of intraerythrocytic parasite of Java common palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). Blood sample was collected for four times during 7 weeks. The first blood sample was collected immediately after the common palm civet just arrived from its natural habitat, and then adapted for 30 days before the next blood sampling were taken every week. The results of this study found that the common palm civet was infected by Babesia sp., Theileria sp., and Anaplasma sp. The infection rate from the highest is Anaplasma sp. (0.35 ± 0.05) %, Theileria sp. (0.12 ± 0.05) %, and Babesia sp. (0.03 ± 0.02) % respectively. The mean percentage of Babesia sp. and Anaplasma sp. decreased during the study, while percentage of Theileria sp. increased until the end of study. The sex of common palm civet did not affect the infestation of intraerythrocytic parasites.
