| Abstract: | Java island has been experienced a heavy deforestation in the 16th century. On accounts of increases of human population in this area, most of the forests were changed into open land with shrubs and secondary vegetations. The frugivororous birds play in important role on vegetation recoveries since they help seed dispersal. The purpose of this study was to know the communities of frugivorous birds in succession habitat. The areas are abandoned tea plantation of ≥ 5 and ≥ 10 years ago, and secondary forest in West Java, Indonesia. Observation of bird communities was carried out by point count method and capture-recapture method since April up to November 2005. Birds communities were recorded at abandoned tea plantation ≥ 5 KT5 (55 species; 235 ind/ha), KT10 (39 species; 28 ind./ha) and secondary forest (62 species; 204 ind./ha). Bird community hierarchy cluster consist of 17 insectivorous guilds, 6 frugivorous guilds, 4 carnivorous and omnivorous guilds, and 3 granivorous and nectarivorous guilds. |
