dc.description.abstractBiphasic Calcium Phosphate (BCP) - High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) scaffold has been synthesized by using raw material from the shells of green mussels as a source of calcium to synthesize BCP. The shells are calcined at a temperature of 1000 °C for 5 hours to form a single phase of CaO. Ca(OH)2 is formed through the binding of H2O by CaO. CaO and Ca(OH)2 is reacted with P2O5 through milling process at a speed of 600 rpm for 6 hours and sintering process at a temperature of 900 °C for 3 h. The BCP resulted from these processes is a composition of 47,80% hydroxyapatite (HAp), 44,60% β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) and 7,600% impurity of Ca(OH)2. This composition value is obtained by manual calculated using the direct comparison method based on XRD data. The lattice parameter of HAp is a = 9,436 Å and c = 6,906 Å, and lattice parameter of β-TCP is a = 10,44 Å and c = 37,45 Å. BCP has 1,244 to 2,723 of Ca/P ratio. BCP crystal grains become more homogeneous after sonication process. Milling process is performed on a rotary speed of 1325 rpm for 20 minutes result in a homogeneous BCP in the HDPE matrix. The increasing of sonication time and used BCP will increase scaffold hardness value.en
