| Abstract: | Forest resource conflicts amongst governments, local or indigenous communities, and businessmen has oftenly occurred in many contries, including Indonesia. Such conflicts may happen either in the area of production forest, protection forest, or conservation forest. In fact conflicts of forest resources have happened in conservation forests, including some cases of nature reserves, national parks, and grand forest parks (TAHURA). As a result, many conservation forest areas have been continuously degraded. This paper explains how to build a collaborative management of conservation forest for managing conflicts, preventing conservation forest degradation, and enhancing local communities welfare. This paper was written from the author experiences in facilitating a collaborative management of forest resources in Jambi. Collaboration particularly between government and local communities is very important to bring sustainable conservation forest into reality. The role of local communities is inevitably needed in managing conservation forest sustainably since not only they own manpower, but also local knowledge, social capital, and cultural capital. On the one hand conservation forest could support communities livelihood and local communities are so much dependent upon conservation forest resources. On the other hand government has scientific knowledge, technology, and financial capital necessary to manage the existing forest conservation as well as the forest resources. The author suggests approaches, principles and challenges to achieve a mutual collaboration between government and local communities. |
