The purpose of this research is to determine the catch composition and diversity of monofilament bottom gillnet of different mesh size, to determine the catch of redtail scad (Decapterus kurroides) by using monofilament bottom gillnet with different mesh size, and to determine the difference of capture mechanism of redtail scad (Decapterus kurroides) on the monofilament bottom gillnet with different mesh size. The research was done by experimental fishing method using monofilament bottom gillnet with different mesh size (44.5; 50.8; 63.5; and 76.2 mm (1.75; 2; 2.5 and 3 inches)). The arrangement of mesh panel on the set of monofilament bottom gillnet was alternated during fishing trials for giving equal opportunities of fish to be caught. The catch diversity is analyzed using the Shannon Wiener index. The statistical test, i.e.,Friedman test and multiple comparison test are used for significantly test of the catch. The result showed that total catch of monofilament bottom gillnet 529 individuals, consisted of six species. The catch dominant was redtail scad (Decapterus kurroides) with number of 351 individuals or 66.35% of the total catch, followed by goldband goatfish (Upeneus moluccensis) with number of 67 individuals or 12.67% of the total catch. Based on the different mesh size of monofilament bottom gillnet, redtail scad was the main catch of monofilament bottom gillnet with number of mesh size 2.5 was 161 individuals (45.87%). Generally, the redtail scad caught in entangled reached in total 269 individuals (76.64%) of which mesh size 1.75 inches caught 28 individuals (10.41%), mesh size 2 inches caught 70 individuals (26.02%), mesh size 2.5 inches caught 129 individuals (47.96%), and mesh size 3 inches caught 42 individuals (15.61%).en
