Abstract: A 40 day feeding trial was carried out to assess the right protein level and energy ratio on growth performance of juvenile Blue-fin trevally, Caranx melampygus. 240 fish were used in the trial with initial weight around 1.61±0.06 g. Experimental diet was formulated to contain 4 protein levels (33, 37, 41, and 45%) and 2 ratios protein energy levels (9 and 10 kcal GE/g). Fish were fed satiation for 3 times a day. A factorial completely randomized experimental design was selected consisted of 2 variables and triplicates. The result showed that high protein content and energy ratio on feed demonstrated protein and lipid level on body fish tend to increase. Interaction between protein level and protein energy ratio influenced on relative growth, feed consumption rate, feed efficiency, survival rate, and protein and lipid retention (P<0.05). Based on evaluation in those parameters concluded that protein level 45% and energy ratio 9 kcal GE/g supported the best growth rate on juvenile Blue-fin trevally C. melampygus
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kadar protein dan rasio energi protein yang tepat bagi pertumbuhan juvenil ikan kuwe Caranx melampygus. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan bisa menjadi informasi dasar dalam penentuan kadar protein dan rasio energi protein dalam membuat formulasi pakan pendederan ikan kuwe. Penelitian ini dilaksankan pada bulan Agustus hingga Oktober 2010 di Stasiun Lapang Pusat Studi Ilmu Kelautan Institut Pertanian Bogor - Ancol Jakarta Utara. Analisa proksimat serta kandungan lemak dan glikogen hati/otot dilakukan di Laboratorium Nutrisi Ikan Departemen Budidaya Perairan FPIK IPB Bogor, sedangkan analisa total amonia nitrogen dilakukan di Laboratorium Lingkungan Departemen Budidaya Perairan FPIK IPB.
