Abstract: Research on the manufacture of cement-carbon composite materials using carbon from coconut coir fiber has been performed. Carbonization was carried out at two phases. First it was carbonized at a temperature of 400 C for 300 minutes and continued to the second phase at variation of temperature of 700, 800, and 900 C for 45, 60 and 90 minutes. The structures of carbon was analyzed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), while observation of the sample surface was carried out using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and the electrical conductivity was measured using LCR meter. The manufacture of cement-carbon composite materials was used carbon fiber using the carbonization temperature of 800 C for 60 minutes in three types of carbon without treatment, with a soaking at 10% and 20% solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH), and three levels of carbon content of 0.5%, 0.75% and 1.0% by weight of cement. Results showed that the cement-carbon composites with soaking at 20% KOH and 1.0% carbon content by weight of the cement has the best properties of the compressive strength (24.938 N mm-2), modulus of rupture (5.231 N mm-2) and the damage self-detection (load at the first crack is 21.0398 N).
Material komposit semen merupakan material yang sangat penting pada infrastruktur sipil seperti gedung, jalan, dan jembatan. Pada kenyataannya material ini tidak terlepas dari kerusakan. Hal ini memerlukan pendeteksian kerusakan untuk menghindari kejadian yang tidak diinginkan. Teknologi pendeteksian kerusakan bangunan yang sudah dilakukan adalah dengan menggunakan serat optik dan terhubung dengan sistem penginderaan satelit.
