Abstract: The study was aims to describe the anatomy of limbs skeleton of long-tailed monkey that related with its movement. The skeleton were observed macroscopically and were measured on their length and width. The results of the study showed that the forelimb and hindlimb of long-tailed monkey were long and slim, but the structure were strong and compact. The forelimb were consisted of scapula, humerus, radius-ulna, carpal, metacarpal and digiti manus bones. The hindlimb were consisted of coxae, femur, tibia, fibula and digiti pedis bones. The skeleton surfaces were smooth wiht cauliflower as places for muscles attachment. The anatomy of forelimb allowed to more variation of movement than that other mammals. These variations had correlation with the monkey’s survival activities in aboreal. In addition, the monkey’s limb could make such manipulation of movement like humans’ could do. On the other hand, the hind limb was used as the main force power. The structure of the hindlimb was similar to the forelimb thus the making the long-tailed monkey as plantigradi. This similarity also resulted in the rear leg capable of manipulation movements such as hanging.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari anatomi skelet tungkai monyet ekor panjang yang dikaitkan dengan gerakan yang mampu dilakukannya. Anatomi skelet tungkai diamati secara makroskopik, kemudian dilakukan pengukuran panjang dan lebar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tungkai depan dan belakang dari monyet ekor panjang berukuran panjang dan ramping, tetapi kuat dan kompak dengan permukaan halus dan penjuluran sebagai tempat pertautan otot-otot. Tungkai depan terdiri dari os scapula, os humerus, ossa radius-ulna, dan skeleton manus. Tungkai belakang terdiri dari os coxae, os femur, ossa tibia-fibula dan skeleton pedis. Tungkai depan monyet ekor panjang mampu melakukan gerakan yang sangat bervariasi dibandingkan dengan hewan mamalia lainnya. Hal ini diduga terkait dengan fungsi tungkai depan dalam melakukan aktivitas untuk bertahan di habitat arborealnya. Selain digunakan sebagai alat lokomosi tungkai depan mampu melakukan gerakan manipulasi seperti yang dilakukan manusia. Adapun tungkai belakang digunakan sebagai tenaga dorong utama. Struktur tungkai belakang monyet ekor panjang memiliki kemiripan dengan tungkai depannya sehingga monyet ini termasuk hewan plantigradi karena menapakkan semua ruas skeleton manusnya. Kemiripan ini juga mengakibatkan tungkai belakang mampu melakukan gerakan manipulasi seperti bergelantungan.
