Abstract: | Various economic activities underway and arround Gili Sulat-Gili Lawang protected area seriously impacted coral reef and seagrass ecosystems degradation. The aims of this research are to evaluate zoning of marine protected area, assess land suitability for multiple uses, the determine carryng capacity, and the optimize land utilization of marine protected area. Data and information were collected participatively using questioner and the field survey for assesing the biophysics characteristics of the Gili Sulat-Gili Lawang protected area. The methods used consist the Geographic Information System (GIS) for suitability analysis; carrying capacity analysis using ecosystem utilitied, dinamic model for optimizing space and management sustainability with multidimension scalling analysis. The results show that marine protected area zone of Gili Sulat- Gili Lawang by using ecology, social and economic criteria was divided by three zoning these are no-take zone, limited use zone and other use zone. The condition of mangroves vegetation, live coral and seagrass are categorized from poor to good. Development activities that suitable for limited uses are demersal and pelagic fisheries and coastal tourism. 10.8 ha and 9.31 ha are suitable for scuba diving, snorkeling and coastal tourism with the capacity of tourism are 150 person/day and 120 person/day respectively. While the suitable for mangrove tourism was 23,04 ha with 230 person/day tourism capacity. Based on multidimension scaling approach and its priorites scale of priorities, the alternatives policies of marine protected area development are local wisdom improvement, supporting infrastructure and conservation fee policies. |
