Abstract: The beauty of coral reefs is one of the attractions in marine ecotourism. Marine ecotourism has now become the most important part for the growth of global tourism industry, such as diving and snorkeling tours are very popular throughout the world, including the area of Menjangan island. This study aims to 1) analyze and describe comprehensively the condition, suitability and level of resource carrying capacity in the area of Menjangan island, 2) analyze and describe comprehensively the economic conditions, tourist preferences, and local participation in the management of marine ecotourism in the area of Menjangan island, 3) analyze the optimal level of management of marine ecotourism in the area of Menjangan island, 4) plan sustainable management model of marine ecotourism in the area of Menjangan island. The survey results on observation 6 station, LIT method shows the percentage of living cover coral is 46.42% or in the medium category are the 50 species of fish in it. Mangrove vegetation density obtained an average of 11.11 individu/100m2 Keyword: Menjangan island, marine ecotourism, optimal management model , so that the suitability index obtained in the category of tourism is in accordance with the carrying capacity utilization of 30 240 people per year. Analysis of supply demand obtain a consumer surplus value of US$ 3195 per individual per year and the region’s economic value of US$ 1 746 572. WTP values tourists an average of US$ 11.37 with a total value of WTP in a year of 1 206 033 757 IDR. The level of community participation is influenced by level of education, understanding of the environment and income. The optimal management model is a model that incorporates elements of rehabilitation activities in the management scenario.
Indonesia dengan berbagai keanekaragaman sumber daya hayatinya merupakan modal pembangunan yang sangat potensial. Kekayaan alam ini, terdapat di seluruh wilayah Indonesia, baik yang ada di darat maupun di pesisir dan lautan. Potensi sumber daya alam yang melimpah ini, tentunya memerlukan penanganan yang serius agar aset tersebut dapat dipertahankan dan digunakan secara optimal untuk kesejahteraan rakyat. Namun dengan tetap memperhatikan kelestarian lingkungan dan azas manfaat sehingga produktifitasnya dapat terus dirasakan. Salah satu bentuk pemanfaatan dari kekayaan sumber daya alam tersebut adalah pariwisata. Pariwisata merupakan kegiatan primadona dan telah menjadi bagian dari sektor andalan pembangunan nasional. Data pertumbuhan pariwisata dunia semenjak 1960an sebagaimana dipublikasikan oleh World Tourism Organization (WTO) setiap tahunnya mengalami peningkatan. Banyak negara di dunia berlomba untuk mengembangkan pariwisata sebagai salah satu alternatif dalam meningkatkan kinerja pembangunan nasionalnya.
