Abstract: Uniform drug distribution in drug delivery systems improves effective absorption of the drug and reduces the risk of irritation. Mikroencapsulation is a way to modify the release of drug so it can reduce or eliminate adverse side effects. In this research poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with the bees wax were used to coat ibuprofen. Microencapsulation of ibuprofen was done by emulsification of oil in water method. Ratio variation of PLA:beeswax were 1:9; 2:8; 3:7, and 4:6, with various concentration of the emulsifier poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) of 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%. The efficiency of encapsulation in PLA ratio:beeswax 4:6 and 0.5% PVA concentration showed an efficiency above 70%. The size of microcapsules ranged from 50 to 100 μm. The release pattern of ibuprofen had a constant rate and influenced by the efficiency of encapsulation. Ibuprofen release pattern followed the model zero order kinetic with the mechanism of drug release based on the super case-II transport.
Distribusi bahan aktif yang seragam pada sistem pengantaran bahan aktif meningkatkan efektivitas bahan aktif dan mengurangi risiko iritasi. Mikroenkapsulasi merupakan salah satu cara untuk memodifikasi pelepasan bahan aktif sehingga dapat mengurangi atau menghilangkan efek samping yang merugikan. Dalam penelitian ini paduan poli(asam laktat) (PLA) dengan lilin lebah digunakan sebagai penyalut bahan aktif ibuprofen. Mikroenkapsulasi ibuprofen dibuat dengan metode emulsifikasi minyak didalam air. Ragam nisbah.PLA:lilin lebah 1:9, 2:8, 3:7, dan 4:6 serta ragam konsentrasi pengemulsi poli (vinil alkohol) (PVA) 0.5%, 1.0%, dan 1.5%. Efisiensi enkapsulasi pada nisbah PLA: lilin lebah 4:6 dan konsentrasi PVA 0.5% yang memiliki efisiensi diatas 70%. Ukuran mikrokapsul yang dihasilkan berkisar 50−100 μm. Pola pelepasan ibuprofen memiliki laju konstan dan dipengaruhi oleh efisiensi enkapsulasi. Pola pelepasan ibuprofen mengikuti model kinetika orde ke-0 dengan mekanisme pelepasan ibuprofen berdasarkan super case-II transport.
