Abstract: | The Increasing of population causes increasing of need for food. This situation makes agricultural sector has to increase its production. One attempt to increase agricultural production is by doing intensive soil tillage. However, in the long term, intensive soil tillage will reduce soil quality. Therefore, a good soil tillage that can maintain land productivity remain high is necessary. This system is conservation soil tillage (CT). Nevertheless, how far is this system better than intensive soil tillage system (IT) is still debatable up to now. This research aims to know and compare the influence of conservation soil tillage and intensive soil tillage on soil physical and hydrological characteristics. The soil physical characteristics observed include bulk density of soil, field moisture content, available water capacity, pF curve, C-organic, soil penetrability and soil hydrological characteristics include infiltration capacity and hydraulic conductivity. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using analysis of variants (ANOVA) and Duncan's test. The results show that the land with conservations oil tillage (CT) has better quality of soil physical and hydrological characteristic than land with intensive soil tillage (IT). It is shown by lower bulk density (0.97 g/cm3) in CT than that in IT (1.13 g/cm3), higher soil organic matter in CT (2.45%) than that in IT (1.90%), lower soil penetration resistance in CT than that in IT, higher soil porosity in CT (63.37%) than that in IT (57.92%), higher availability water in CT than that in IT, faster infiltration capacity in CT (28 cm/hour) than that in IT (7.33 cm/hour) and faster soil hydraulic conductivity in CT (0.98 cm/hour) than that in IT (0.25 cm/hour). Peningkatan jumlah penduduk menyebabkan semakin meningkatnya kebutuhan akan pangan. Kondisi ini menuntut sektor pertanian agar dapat meningkatkan produksinya. Salah satu usaha untuk meningkatkan produksi pertanian adalah dengan melakukan pengolahan tanah secara intensif. Namun dalam jangka panjang, pengolahan tanah secara intensif akan menurunkan kualitas tanah. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya sistem pengolahan tanah yang dapat mempertahankan produktivitas suatu lahan agar tetap tinggi. Sistem pengolahan tanah tersebut adalah sistem pengolahan tanah konservasi. Saat ini masih terjadi perdebatan terkait dengan seberapa besar pengaruh sistem pengolahan tanah konservasi tersebut terhadap produktivitas suatu lahan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan membandingkan pengaruh pengolahan tanah konservasi dan pengolahan tanah intensif terhadap sifat fisik dan hidrologitanah. Parameter yang diamati meliputi bobot isi, kadar air lapang, air tersedia, kurva pF, C-organik, tahanan penetrasi tanah, serta sifat hidrologi tanah yang meliputi kapasitas infiltrasi, permeabilitas, dan hantaran hidrolik. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara statistic menggunakan Analisis of Varian (Anova) dan ujilanjut Duncan. Data yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa lahan yang diolah secara konservasi memiliki kualitas fisik dan hidrologi tanah yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif. Hal ini ditunjukkan dari rata-rata bobot isi tanah yang lebih rendah (0,97 g/cm3) dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif (1,13 g/cm3), bahan organik tanah yang lebih tinggi (2,45%) dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif (1,90%), tahanan penetrasi tanah yang lebih rendah dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif, porositas total tanah yang lebihtinggi (63,37%) dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif (57,92%), ketersediaan air yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif, laju infiltrasi yang lebih cepat (28 cm/jam) dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif (7,33 cm/jam), permeabilitas yang lebih cepa (8,40 cm/jam) dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif (0,69 cm/jam), serta hantaran hidrolik tanah yang lebih cepat (0,98 cm/jam) dibandingkan lahan pengolahan tanah intensif (0,25 cm/jam). |
