Abstract: Families with insufficient income can reduce their economic problems by making some adjustments. Families do coping strategy through the optimization of family resources in order to regain some control over their economic situation. This study aimed to analyze the differences of coping strategy and also the differences of gender roles in family decision making, task sharing between paddy farmer and horticulture farmer families. This study also addressed to analyze the relationship between decision making in coping strategy, family activities, and also task sharing pattern with family welfare; and to analyze factors affecting family welfare. This study was a cross sectional survey that involved 100 randomly samples consisted of 50 paddy farmers and 50 horticulture farmers. There were no significant differences in cost cutting strategies, resource addition strategies and social strategies between paddy and horticulture farmer’s families. Some differences in the roles of gender between paddy and horticulture farmers families were detected in decision making process in cost cutting strategies, resource addition strategies, social strategies, food preparation, family finance, economic activities at non farm sector and also social activities. The results pointed out the difference of the task sharing pattern in child caring activities and conducting household work activities between paddy and horticulture farmer families. However, there was no difference of sharing task performance in public sector between rice and horticulture farmer families. The decision making in coping strategy and family activities were positively correlated with BKKBN welfare indicator; whereas sharing task performance was positively correlated with BPS welfare indicator. By employing binary logistic regression method, it was predicted that the education level of husband, family size, access to the market and industrial sector, and also social strategies would determine family well-being.
