| dc.description.abstract | Star fruit packaging commonly use fruit basket during transportation and stacked usually, whereas it could make mechanical damages to star fruit, like bruised, scratch, and broke on star fruit because it has soft texture. Therefore it needs more special treatment after harvest to reduce the damage during transportation and distribution. The purpose of this research is design a packaging for transportation and distribution on star fruit which the main material are star fruit and corrugated double flute. The steps of this research are designing packaging, compression strength testing and the spread of temperature in cold storage, selecting the packaging, and simulation of transportation. Design process produce four packaging design, that was: the first design with capacity of 24 fruits per package with circle ventilation (K24CV) and with oblong ventilation (K24OV) has dimensions 30 x 23 x 32 cm, then the second design with capacity of 40 fruits with circle ventilation (K40CV) and with oblong ventilation (K40OV) has dimensions 37 x 30 x 32 cm. The material of packaging design used BC flute for primary packaging (outer) and used B flute for secondary packaging (inner). K40CV was a selected packaging based on the testing during research when has average ability to resist compression about 272.32 kgf and more adaptable in cold storage than other packaging design when enter the minute of 130 it has a stable which the different temperature from each other point in the packaging is about 0.15-0.4ºC | en |
