Abstract: The research was conducted to learn the utilization of tools cosmotector as a tool for rapid testing of soybean (Glycine max L. MERR.) seed vigor. This tool is used to measure the levels of CO2 produced from respiration processes of soybean seeds and then calculated the rate respiration. This research was conducted from February to May 2011 at the Laboratory of Seed Technology and Post Harvest Laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB. Prior research done by finding the pretreatment so we get the five groups of seeds that have different vigor of a seed same vigor group. Then measured the rate of respiration by several pretreatments, there are moistened for 10 hours, 15 hours, and 20 hours, and incubation at temperatures 600C for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes. The conclusion of this research is cosmotector tool can be used for rapid testing of soybean seed vigor by measuring the rate respiration. The best pretreatment for measuring respiration rate of soybean seeds with such a device is incubation at temperatures 600C for 45 minutes. This method can determine seed viability and vigor well.
