Abstract

Nowadays, horses are not only used as a means of carrying or towing but also used in sports such as polo. Nusantara Polo Club (NPC) is a polo club in Indonesia. Nusantara Polo Club has two groups of athlete and non-athlete horses which are placed in different stable. The research observed 35 Alfa stable horses which are used polo sport. Breeding management and training affect the quality of polo horse. Breeding management includes the nursing, feeding, stabling, and health handling of horse. Breeding management is different according to the function and daily activity of horse. The difference lays on feeding and training pattern, while horse nursing and health handling are equal for all type of horses. Patterns of the training include lungeing polo horse training, the introduction of control, schooling, and stick and ball. Generally, the breeding management of horse in NPC is good enough, but it still needs correction in feeding because therearedeficiency of lysine and magnesium in feed.
