Abstract: Sumedang is one of regencies in West Java Province which located in the east of Bandung City. Sumedang has many natural resources such as waterfalls, forest, water sources, and other natural phenomenon. This circumstance is strategically potential to attract tourist to the natural tourism object. This research was conducted at several tourism objects in Sumedang during May-June 2010. The tools used in the research were consisted of camera, GPS, and stationaries. Materials used were consisted of map of Sumedang, a modified standard assesment of Natural Tourism Objects (ADO-ODTWA) issued by the Directorate General of Forest Protection and Natural Conservation (2003), guidelines of interview, and questionaire. Data on nature-based tourism objects were collected from observation, interview and the modified ADO-ODTWA. The recommendation on nature-based tourism development in Sumedang was resulted from analyses on the potential of nature-based tourism objects, visitors’ opinion and suggestions, and tourism management planning. There were 21 natural based tourism objects, consist of waterfall, camping ground, rest area, water source, and natural phenomenon. The result of ADO-ODTWA assessment showed that the score of each objects were Curug Cinulang (1635), Parakan Kondang (1595), Curug Ciputrawangi (1545), Geundeng (1515), Situsari (1490), Cipanas Sekarwangi (1400), Cipanas Cileungsing (1385), Baru Beureum (1250), Gunung Kunci (1205), Cibingbin (1140), Cipadayungan (1135), Cipanteuneun (1130), Tirta Sandi (1125), Curug Cipongkor (1125), Curug Cigorobog (1115), Cadas Pangeran (1070), Cikandung (1070), Margawindu (1070), Cijarami Indah (1070), Cigendel (1040) and Gunung Palasari (995). The result of analysis showed that there were one object wits high tourism potentials, 14 objects wits medium potentials, and 6 object with low potentials. Curug Cinulang wis the object with high tourism potentials and there fore it was recommended the hinghest priority object to be developed. Natural based tourism development in Sumedang can be done by (1) developing tourism products, (2) increasing the cooperation among all stakeholders in the development and promotion of the objects, (3) improving the accesibility to the area and inside the area, and (4) enhancing the supporting facilities (facilities and infrastructures).
