| Abstract: | The purpose of this research is to analyze soil infiltration characteristic and the main soil physical characters that influence to soil infiltration of several land uses, namely pine forest, vegetable garden, chilli garden, grasses land and resettlement area. Resettlement area has the highest soil bulk density (1,14 g/cm3) producing the lowest total pore space as compared to the others. The pore of resettlement area is dominated by hygroscopic pore (35,57 % v/v), whereas drainage pore is just 4,24 % (v/v). In pine forest, drainage pore is up to 19,85 % (v/v) and hygroscopic pore is up to 24,86 % (v/v). The amount of drainage pore in vegetable garden is 10,28 % (v/v) and its hygroscopic pore is 25,78 % (v/v). Drainage pore in chili garden is up to 17,17 % (v/v) and its hygroscopic pore is up to 17,35 % (v/v). In grasses land, the amount of drainage pore is 14,79 % (v/v) and its hygroscopic pore is 22,98 % (v/v). Infiltration rate of pine forest is the fastest rate, with average rate is up to 600 mm/hour that is classified as very fast rate according to Kohnke’s infiltration rate classification (1968), followed by chilli garden soil (180 mm/hour) and vegetable garden (140 mm/hour) that are classified as fast rate. Infiltration rate of grasses soil is classified as fast rate with average value is up to 136 mm/hour. The lowest infiltration rate occurs at resettlement area, where average infiltration rate is only 7,33 mm/hour that classified as medium-slow rate. The low average of soil infiltration rate at resettlement area is caused by soil compaction. Infiltration rate is mainly influenced by soil porosity, particularly by pore size distribution. At the beginning, infiltration rate is more governed by drainage pore while for constant infiltration rate is more influenced by finest pore, namely capillary pore and hygroscopic pore. |
