Abstract: Subclinical mastitis can be only detected with microbiological examination and somatic cell count using milk samples. This disease has considerable effect on dairy farm profit by means of the reduction of milk production and the possibility of mastitis to become clinical or chronic and to result in early dairy culling. Early detection of mastitis is thus very important and able to reduce the risks. Mastitis testing in the field can be done using reagent. Field subclinical mastitis tests which are available in these days, such as CMT are rarely done due to the price and the availability of the reagent. The purpose of this research is to develop a method and a reagent for field subclinical mastitis which is relatively easy to use, inexpensive, and constructed of ingredients readily available in domestic market. The reagent is called IPBI . Data analysis indicated that the sensitivity of IPB- I, CMT, WST, AMP mod-1 and AMP mod-2 are 0.99, 0.92, 0.94, 0.92 and 0.94, respectively; the specificity are 0.92, 0.36, 0.32, 0.47 and 0.89, respectively. The predictive value are 0.95, 0.97, 0.99, 0.99 and 0.97. While the reliability value of IPB-1 is better than other reagents, its predictive value still needs improvement.
