Abstract: The research was conducted in order to investigate the effect of probiotic administration and subclinical infection of Salmonella for gross and microscopical lesion of liver in chicken. The study was divided into 3 parts of trial (A,B,C). Part A (non-infected) : 100 broilers were divided into 5 groups. The first group (1A) was the control group (without probiotic and antibiotic), the second group (2A) received feed containing zinc bacitracin, the third group (3A) received probiotic Bacillus apiar'iirs, the fourth group (4A) received probiotic B. coagulans, and the fifth group (5A) received probiotic BM (contained B. apiarius, B. coagulans, B. alvei, B. circulans. B. brevis and B. laferosporus). The probiotic were supplemented in drinking water (loY CFUJlitre). Part B and C were the same pattern of trial as part A and challenged with Salmonella. Part B was oral infected with S enteritidis and part C was infected with S. typhimurium, (10' CFU) at 3 week old. The chickens were necropsied at 1,2,3 and 4 week post infection and fbrther investigation for gross and microscopical lesion of liver. The study showed that the average of liver rnacroscopical and niicroscopical scores of the probiotic treated group are lower than the control group. The liver showed degeneration and hepatocytes necrosis. Based on the macroscopic and microscopic observation, the probiotic administration decreased gross and microscopical lesion of liver due to Salmonella infection.
