The objectives of the present studies were to identify the presence of short chain fatty acids (SCF A) and investigate SCFA changes in apple seed parts during stratification. Hexanoic, octanoic, nonanoic, and decanoic acids have been identified using Gas-Chromatography MassSpectrometry. Routine analyses of SCFA by Gas-Chromatography showed that the highest SCFA content was found in the nucellus membranes. SCFA content in the seed coats was low and at similar level to SCF A content in the embryos.id
