Abstract: Heritability estimates have been made by several workers overseas. However, the estimates varied due to differences of populations, methods and generation studied. There are no published estimates of heritability for virginia x virginia peanuts grown under Queensland conditions. The experiment used three methods of heritability estimates namely variance component, standard unit and realized 20%. The results shown that variance component heritability estimates were inflated by genotype x environment interactions. Furthermore, there were no advantage in dividing the target environment domain into sub-regions for production efficiency. Moreover, plant breeding testing program could be reduced by substitution of locations for years.
