Abstract: T~Lp'r oblem ,faced in cultivation of ginger i.s the uvuilabilitl, of uniform plant propagation 1iiciteria1.s. Ginger is propcrguted through underground rhizon~es.G rowth of the rhizome is not un~fbrm,s ince the shoots do not sprout at 111e scinzc time. Most of'the rhizomes were attacked by several di.seases szich as bacterial wilt, so3 rot, and nematodes. 1'1~opugutio(r$~p lant material through in-vitro czrltzrre is also an obstacle since the price ofpure agar and chenzicals is I1en1e .~pensii~eT.h erefire, production of cheap, zrniforni and d~sease~frepelu nt materials with rapid nzultiplicatior~r ule I.\ nece.s.sar~,fi)trh e .succe.ssful ginger cziltivation. The use c!J'alternarive media on in-vitro czrlture of' ginger (Zingiber c~icinuleR osc.) cv. Gajuh was conducted in order to suhstittrte cheaper alternative media for in-vitro ctrlture of ginger. An esperimenr using two basic composition of media (MS and liquid ,fertilizer) and three different ry/le.s of' crgur (serrlveed, Swullow und Oxoid agar) MJUS done ut the Tissue Czrlture Luborato~o~f' Center ,fbr Reseurch und Developmenr of lsotope and Radiation Technology, .Jakarta. The re.sult showed that the highest shoot height, nzrmher of' shoot c~ndle af wa.s obtained from medium composition ($.sea weed and MS. Whilst the tnedizrm of'Oxoid agar und A4.Y proh~cedt he longe.~a~n d the highest number qf root. The cheapest medizini was found ,from seuweed and liylrid fbrtilizer coniposition, whereas the most expensive mcdiunz was from Oxoid agar and MS composition. Seciweed and !YMJU//OMa~ gar in MS media showed similar growth perfor~nance as all us Oxoid agar in development ~f'gitlger p/ant/e/.s.
