Five experimental IPB corn hybrids and four open pollinated introductions from CIMMYT Mexico were tested for potential yield performance using the best national variety H6 as standard on a latosol at the IPB experimental station, Darmaga IV, Bogor. The soil was fertilized with 200 kg N, 200 kg P205, 100 kg K20 and 2 ton of chiken manure per hectare. All varieties tested matured 3 -8 days earlier and yielded 7-21% higher than H6 (4 175 kg/ha). Among hybrids, 19 x 16 gave the highest yield (4 806 kg/ha) and among the introductions Sete Lagoas 7726 (5 038 kg/ha). Tall stature in hybrids and high susceptibility to downy mildew among the introduction were the undesirable characteristics.id
