| Abstract: | Community empowerment is one of program that implemented by government to alleviate the poverty in Indonesia. The meaning of community empowerment is interpreted in many terms so making the performance of community empowerment program is not optimal. The objective of this paper are to (1) analyze the role of interpersonal relationship to optimalize the performance of community empowerment program; (2) analyze strategy for improving the quality of interpersonal relationship in order to optimalize the performance of community empowerment. The result of this analysis shows that the top-down pattern of community empowerment must be redesign because the interpersonal relationship is not accomodated. The interpersonal relationship between goverment and community is a key factor to optimalize the performance of community empoverment program. Strategy to optimalize the performance of community empowerment through improving the quality of interpersonal relationship can be implemented by using the combination between factor that can rise interpersonal relationship (culture, social, and economic) with communication contex (trust supportiveness, and open-mindedness). To prefer the appropriate strategy, government must consider many factors that are reward, cost, benefit, and comparation level that be accepted by community. |
