Abstract

Algae are rich and pdential as sources of pharmaceutically active natural products. la this paper the biologkal effect of natural products derived from algae of the divisions Chlorophyta (eyeen algae), Rbodophyta (red algae), Phaeopbyta (brown algae) and Cyanophyta (blue-green algae) are discussed. Tbe described compounds belong to a wide ranges of structural clssess, including alkaloids, aromatic compounds, macrolides, peptides and terpenes, aU of whkh exbibit certain b i o w a l activity.
