Rainfall is an environmental factor that can affect the efficiency of pine resin tapping. This study aims to examine resin loss due to rainfall and evaluate the effectiveness of open and closed collection techniques across different levels of crown density. The research was conducted in May 2025 at RPH Cepoko, KPH Lawu Ds, using 60 Pinus merkusii trees selected through purposive sampling. The trees were grouped based on three levels of crown density (low, medium, and high) and two resin collection techniques. A factorial completely randomized design (CRD) was employed, and data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test. The results showed that the closed collection technique was more effective in reducing resin loss compared to the open technique. The highest loss occurred in trees with low crown density (53.61% for open and 16.21% for closed collection), while the lowest loss was found in trees with high crown density (38.09% for open and 12.61% for closed collection). ANOVA results indicated that the resin collection technique, crown density, and their interaction had a significant effect on resin loss (P < 0.05). The combination of closed collection technique and dense crown was effective in minimizing resin loss due to high rainfall.-
