Limitation of macronutrients nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and silicon (Si) in diatoms can affect growth and nutrient composition such as fatty acid profiles. This study aims to evaluate the growth performance and biomass of Thalassiosira sp. cultured in technical media with varying doses of silicate fertilizer and N/P ratios. The experimental design employed a factorial completely randomized design with two factors: silicate concentrations (10 and 15 mg/L) and N/P ratios (8 and 21). Observations were conducted over four days with treatments including control using Walne medium, NP8S10 (N:P=8:1, Silicate 10 mg/L), NP8S15 (N:P=8:1, Silicate 15 mg/L), NP21S10 (N:P=21:1, Silicate 10 mg/L), and NP21S15 (N:P=21:1, Silicate 15 mg/L). Results indicated that N/P ratios and silicate concentrations significantly influenced (P<0.05) microalgal growth, specific growth rate (SGR), and biomass production of Thalassiosira sp.. The addition of technical fertilizer with an N/P ratio of 21:1 and a silicate concentration of 10 mg/L and 15 mg/L yielded the best performance compared to other treatments including walne media. |
