Abstract: Birun Village Forest (VF) in Birun Village, Pangkalan Jambu District, Merangin Regency. The certainty of the existence of plant biodiversity in the Birun VF area, especially protected and rare ones, is unknown. Therefore, research on plant biodiversity in the area is necessary. This study aims to identify habitat conditions and plant biodiversity in the Birun VF area. The plant species richness found in the Birun VF area is 73 species that can be grouped into 40 families. Based on its location, the highest plant species richness is found in transect 2 (44 species and 29 families) and the least is found in transect 1 (42 species and 24 families). The Shanon diversity index for seedling and undergrowth growth levels was 2.032 - 2.476, saplings 1.830 - 2.638, poles 2.327 - 2.615, and trees 2.435 - 2.834, and epiphytes and others 1.099 - 1.406. The ecosystem type with the lowest species diversity index at all growth levels was transect 1; while the lowest was found in transect 2. The dominant plant species in the Birun VF area were Quercus spicata, Aporosa microcalyx, Astronia macrophylla, Macaranga gigantea, Bellucia axinanthera, Caryota mitis, Nephrolepis exaltata, and Gleichenia linearis. The plant species with the highest density in the Birun VF area are Quercus spicata, Aporosa microcalyx, Astronia macrophylla, Dehaasia firma, Bellucia axinanthera, Caryota mitis, Nephrolepis exaltata, Angiopteris evecta, and Gleichenia linearis. Based on its protection status, in the Birun VF area there are no protected plant species according to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. P.106 of 2018 and/or endemic; however, 2 plant species are found that are included in the CITES Appendix II List, 24 species are included in the LC/Least Concern category, 1 species is included in the NT/Near Threatened category, 3 plant species are included in the VU/Vulnerable category, and 1 plant species is included in the EN/Endangered category.
