Peatland clearing for oil palm plantations has raised environmental concerns, one of which is the alteration of soil physical characteristics. This research aims to analyze the bulk density and soil water content of peat up to a certain depth at various locations in oil palm plantations. Soil sampling was conducted in Mertasari Village, Pedongga District, Pasangkayu Regency, West Sulawesi in two blocks (OC08 and OL02). Samples were taken using ring sampler at depths of 0 cm to the groundwater table level at 10 cm intervals the interpalm, palm circle, and control areas. Bulk density and moisture content analysis used the gravimetric method. The results showed that bulk density increased in the upper layers (0–10 cm and 10–20 cm) and decreased in the deeper layers (20–30 cm and 30–40 cm). Conversely, water content was higher in the deeper layers (20–30 cm and 30–40 cm) compared to the upper layers (0–10 cm and 10–20 cm). This indicates that oil palm plantation management mainly affect bulk density and water content in the upper layers, while the deeper layers remain relatively unaffected. Furthermore, a strong negative relationship was observed between bulk density and peat water content, whe-
