| dc.description.abstract | Microbiological testing is an essential part of ensuring the safety and shelf life of food and beverage products. However, products containing antimicrobial agents, such as the effervescent powder from PT XYZ, can inhibit the growth of test microorganisms, thereby reducing the validity of the test results. To address this issue, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of adding polysorbate (Tween 80) as a neutralizing agent in the enrichment media for the Total Plate Count (TPC) method. The study used three test microorganisms, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli, which were tested in enrichment media containing polysorbate at concentrations of 0,1 %, 0,5 %, and 1 %. The results showed that the addition of polysorbate improved the reliability of microbiological testing for products containing antimicrobial agents, such as effervescent powder. A polysorbate concentration of 0,5 % was found to be optimal, with all microorganisms achieving a recovery rate of = 70 %, in accordance with United States Pharmacopeia standards. | - |
